FORGET ANTI-AGEING. I'LL HAVE A YOUTH BOOST.

I went to the launch of Ultraceutical’s new ExoSignal GF2 Facial Serum. And I noticed on the (new, rebranded) packaging, the product says ‘Youth Boost’. I love this as a euphemism for ‘anti-ageing’, because anti-ageing is anti-living. Youth Boost feels… achievable. Just a boost! Not a completely new collagen structure, but a little something-something to make the very best of what you have.

The science behind the serum itself impressed me: an exosome serum (exosomes are cellular messengers that signal skin cells to repair, regenerate and function more efficiently) used as the last serum step before moisturiser, to improve the efficacy of all the products applied before. Just imagine your hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C are in an exercise class, and the exosomes come along to whip them properly into shape. (The visual I’m giving myself is Vitamin C working up a sweat while wearing a jazzy little sweat bands, but I can’t help where my mind goes…)

Anyway, the event was a masterclass in bringing a product to life; it was like being immersed in a press release, without faff or angles. And it was green. Very green. I think I look rather good in green lighting, and I appreciated it.

The Ultraceuticals education team was on hand to really delve into how the ExoSignal serum worked and why, and if ever anyone was a walking advertisement for their brand, I mean, their skin was perfection. I couldn’t help staring.

Before I go any further, this is not intended to be an ad for Ultraceuticals or their new serum, though it is a brand I personally like and trust. No one pays me for any of the content I write here, though I am definitely not opposed to that because as a single, slogging mother I need to pay the bills. Please help me pay the bills! There are so, so many!

Anyway, I was particularly taken with the broader conversations I had with various members of the team. How interesting it is that ingredients, such as exosomes, or more recently PDRN, emerge and then start seeping into the mainstream. How consumers seem so much more educated and aware now when it comes to ingredients and what they do, but the sheer volume of new brands and launches is is starting to tip into overwhelm. How the conversation around ageing has changed and the perception of what it means to be 40+ has shifted.

I feel hopeful when I see language evolve from anti-ageing to youth-boosting. It’s a more empowering, less negative opportunity to really celebrate our skin as we get older, and feel good from the outside in and the inside out. There’s something to be said for the power of connection, too. The energy in the room wasn’t just about a new serum, but about people who genuinely believe in what they’re doing, and who are thinking deeply about how we care for our skin as we age.

Maybe that’s the real shift. Not chasing youth, or trying to undo time, but understanding our skin well enough to support it, intelligently, consistently, and without the panic that used to define the category.

A boost, not a battle. It feels like progress.
