I’ve spent more than two decades inside women’s beauty media, from glossy lifestyle titles in Sydney and London, to almost ten years as a beauty editor on a national women’s magazine. I’ve always loved magazines. I still do.

Beauty Bird is my way of carving out something personal within that world. Like most women I know, I’m often winging it myself: navigating deadlines, responsibilities, motherhood and the general chaos of adulthood with varying levels of sleep and success. But I’ve come to believe that creating something with intention and authenticity, rather than perfection, is enough.

I’m also the mother of a brilliant, Mecca-loving, Sephora-delighting, Gen Alpha tween. She has more skincare literacy at eleven than I did at twenty-five. As a millennial raised on sorbolene cream and an ironing board for hair straightening, I’m fascinated by how much has changed, and how overwhelming the beauty landscape has become. Product testing is core to my job, and I’ll be sharing the discoveries that genuinely cut through the noise.

Beauty is fun. Fashion is fabulous. It can be frivolous, but it isn’t fluffy. A great product or treatment can shift your mood entirely, in the same way that a killer outfit can make you feel as if you're walking taller. Even if you're wearing Crocs. Which I probably am.
