Beauty things, fashion things, tidbits from my personal life, maybe even some profound thoughts. Let's see how it all unfolds. It's the beginning of an adventure. What fun!

I am big on beauty since it's my area of expertise, professionally speaking, and I have always loved fashion since I was born into a family of naturally creative dressers. My parents are my style icons. 

So here's the Beauty Bird who and why: I'm Cecily and I've been a magazine beauty editor for more than eight years. I love what I do. It's fun and rewarding and I pinch myself at the places my work takes me and the products and treatments I have the privilege to trial. But I've always felt like there was more that I could do creatively.

I've been feeling the urge to just start something new and just see what happens. I always feel like I'm making things up as I go along, winging it, so to speak. I'm on a hamster wheel of chaos and overwhelm and adult responsibilities, lurching from deadline to deadline with very little sleep. But I'm alive and doing it, day after day. And I truly believe that when you do things with authenticity and for the right reasons, the universe responds in kind. Leap and the net will appear vibes.

 A little about me: I've worked as a journalist in hair and beauty trade media, and consumer women's media, for more than two decades. I have always loved magazines. When I was at uni, it was my dream to work at Marie Claire. I had some very highbrow classmates, who wrote lofty poetry without punctuation, and they pooh-poohed my glossy mag aspirations. But I didn't care. I knew it was a world I wanted to be in, and nothing was going to steer me off course.

Anyway, fast forward to now and I'm still going, proud of the career I've created for myself as a beauty editor and copywriter. But I have so many creative aspirations to fulfil. And that is where Beauty Bird comes in. My very own place to be exactly who I am and share the things I want to share in the hope you enjoy them, too.

Look, beauty is fun. Fashion is fabulous. Sure, it can be frivolous, but it's not fluffy. A good product or treatment has the power to completely transform your mood or how you feel about yourself. Same goes for a killer outfit or a pair of shoes that make you immediately feel like you walk taller... and not because they're heels. I mean... they could be Crocs…
